Can I send my CV to every application?

Answer – No, never send the same CV twice, unless the job applications are very similar. Each job you apply for will require a CV tailored to the application. Just to clarify though, tailor your CV to the job, not to the industry.

Are Professional CV writing services worth it?

Answer – absolutely! 

From our experience it is clear that the vast majority of candidates have no idea how to write or format their CV. Most CVs we see at Premium CVs  tend to fall into two categories. Either far too long-winded, or far too short. In both cases there is always a lack of clear  information and detail, and often important sections completely missing or misplaced. Many use complicated formats which make them hard to read. CVs need to be written in a concise, easy to read format, with no complicated formatting.

Candidates also need to use a template that is Applicant Tracking System (ATS) friendly. This system is used my many recruiters nowadays to help sift through the good from the bad applications. If yours doesn’t comply, you’re out! The template used by Premium CVs is 100% ATS friendly.

Some enquiries come from clients who had had CV help from a kind friend or relative. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it doesn’t. Many a time I have re-written such CVs, which have resulted in quick success!

Why have terms and conditions?

My terms and conditions are an integral part of the process. If they are not approved the CV process cannot continue. In fact if you read the terms, many of the questions you may have are answered there.

It is sometimes clear that clients have not read the terms carefully, even though they say they have. The terms are there to explain what is expected of them, and in return, what they can expect from me. Ignoring or skimming through the terms, but giving approval anyway, can jeopardise the whole process and lead to complications.

Do you need a CV for a job?

Answer

The quick answer is ideally yes. However it depends.

If you are applying for a job vacancy online, it’s possible you may not require a CV. However if you do have one it makes the application process much easier. You can copy and paste sections of your CV into the application form. It may require tweaking, but you’ve already done most of the hard work, so its much easier than starting from scratch.

Some career professionals will argue that you don’t need a CV. In my opinion you do. Then you will be covered for all scenarios.  Having a ‘document’ CV makes your life much easier, whether you are applying online or not.

If you need a CV from scratch, that’s absolutely fine. I will send you a questionnaire to fill in ask you for as much detail as you can. The consultation is our chance to fill in any gaps or question anything that isn’t clear.

How much does a professional CV or resume cost?

Answer

The cost of a CV depends upon how much work needs to be done. The lowest costs is for a simple student CV. At the other end of the scale, a complex CV with over 10 years of career history and multiple and/or complex roles, will command the top price. You can see the pricing structure here.

CVs generally take up to half a day (4 hours) to produce, including consultation. If you have found another CV writer who is charging a lot less than I do, it is very likely that they will not be offering such a comparable, comprehensive service. They certainly won’t be including a one on one CV consultation. Most other CV writers only offer a Skype, email, or phone consultation. In my opinion a CV cannot be written properly, and without a successful outcome, without meeting the expert at a one on one CV consultation. A Skype consultation comes a close second. Our consultations take between one and two hours. It can’t be done for less, particularly complex CVs. No ‘so-called’ expert can ‘read’ the candidates personality or dig deep enough with just a phone call or email.

Why am I not getting interviews? 

 

Q: I want to a change of career, how do I go about it?

A: Questions to ask yourself are “what do I really enjoy doing and what am I good at?”. It would also help to do an online psychometric or aptitude test to help you establish what sort of jobs match your skill set. Once you have more of an idea what you would like to do search for job opportunities in that area to discover what skills, experience and qualifications are required. You will probably need to consider training courses too. If you can, talk to someone who is already doing the job you are interested to find out more.

 

Answer

There could be several reasons why:

  • Don’t just apply for any job, in the hope you will eventually succeed. Make sure your skills and experience are a good match with those required or don’t apply – harsh but true with such fierce competition nowadays.
  • Don’t waste time sending 100s of speculative CVs. You are highly unlikely to be successful.
  • Make sure your CV is up-to-date and tailored to each job you apply for.
  • You may think your CV is fine, but it probably isn’t. At Premium CVs we always ask for a client to send us their current CV. Very rarely do we see a good CV. Many have important sections missing. Usually CVs are too long or too short. Often there are loads of other issues.
  • Do a covering letter to accompany your application – this is just as important as your CV.
